This new event for 2026 is essentially a little bit of fun aimed at getting everyone, runners and walkers, up and out after the festive period to kickstart the New Year, and for us to help burn off all those excesses consumed while in turn burning off all of ours!
Over the past few years we have decided to change four of our point to point races, into single loop routes. This is for sustainability reasons and cutting down on vehicle transport that causes most emissions at events. These races are:
South Downs 100 miles
South Downs 100k
South Downs 20 miles
Seven Sisters Half Marathon
Due to this change we have been left with medals, buckles and t-shirts that we can no longer use. With this in mind, the Lucky Dip and Leftovers Race was created which will hopefully enable us to use these up in a more sustainable way.
There are two ways of taking part. Firstly, there will be 10k and 10 mile in person races taking part on January 3rd over Beachy Head in Eastbourne. Both races begin on the seafront and are single loop routes, finishing in the same location. After completing these runs, everyone will take a lucky dip at the finish line and whatever distance is pulled from the hat is the extra mileage that must be done in order to complete the challenge. This remaining distance is to be virtually, in your own time and at your own pace. So if you were to complete the 10k run and pull the 100 mile distance from the hat, then you will have 94 miles to complete virtually in order to receive what would be the 100 mile buckle.
There will be four Strava Groups that runners can join and add their runs to this every time they are completed. This is a nice way to see what others are doing and to keep motivated to get the runs done. The Strava Group links will be emailed out before January. These groups will be monitored by us and allow us to update everyones results.
Alternatively the results can be emailed to neil@ukultra.co.uk every week with a screen shot or URL showing the runs.
The second option to complete the challenge is to choose a race distance, sign up and complete it all virtually in your own time and at your own pace. The Virtual Race Information can be seen HERE
Anyone entering has the whole Winter period to complete the remaining Virtual part of the challenge which starts on January 3rd and ends on March 20th.
There are no refunds given for this event. The only exception to this is pregnancy. In this case if you inform us before the race you will receive a full refund.
